What defines invisible?
Can it be metaphoric or
must it be literal
To be invisible
seems like you'd be miserable
metaphoric or literal
One can still be invisible
whether it is metaphorically
or literal
the point is anyone can feel invisible
We as individuals
define what is invisible.
This is my poem on Invisible Man comparin and contrasting what defines invisible and how one can be invisible metaphorically and literally. This relates to the character in Invisible Man because he feels he is invisible and at the end of the novel his invisibility takes a turn to leave him as a permanent outcast leavin him truly invisible.
I like the lines "We as individuals/ define what is invisible." This poem really defined how one doesn't have to be literally invisible to feel invisible, and how this concept related to Invisible Man. good job!

First off,
ReplyDeleteI love your page. Despicable Me is amazing. And the minions are beasts.
Now to the blog,
I love the topic you chose. Just reading the title made me sit back and think. It may sound kinda corny and cliche, but how can we as humans really define invisibility, for none of us really are invisible? Isn't like trying to define what the surface of the Sun looks like, even though no human has ever ventured there? Yes, we can take high resolution imagery (or in this particular case, some of us be close to invisibility, i.e. alone or unimportant), but we will never really know the true definition. I don't think invisibility can be defined, which is combined a gift and a curse.
Respect.

The last line of your poem is genius! We truly define "what it is invisible." More importantly, we, as humans, can decide if we want to stay invisible or make ourselves noted.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading this poem and trying to analyze it. It made me think, am I really invisible to others, or do they just choose to perceive me that way. I also liked how you continued to put an emphasis on your anaphora. It became the motif of your poetry. One more question: who's the author? There's no name, so I'll applaud you as the invisible poet.

ReplyDeleteGood job writing a poem :)
ReplyDeleteI like the whole idea you used of it being literal as well as metaphorical. When we hear the word "invisible", we almost always think of its literal meaning (though I don't exactly know why since we can't possibly actually be invisible in its literal sense haha). I think that its figurative meaning though, which these novels are bringing up quite a lot, is very important. It makes us think "what would it be like to be invisible? to be unnoticed by the rest of the world?" It somewhat gives us a clearer perspective of the story and how we can learn from it.

This poem made me think of how many people can feel invisible even though they physically are not. Think for a moment about how many people there are in the world, even in out high school alone that we may pass every single day but we never see them. Does a person be transparent to be invisible? Or can they become invisible by fading away into a faceless crowd.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good poem. Its well organized and has a lot of meaning and i feel like you can just about do a TOSTADA and write an essay on it.

This post does a good job of illustrating how the world can make people feel insignificant to the point where they might even feel invisible. Being invisible can mean anything from physical invisibility or, more realistically, it means that one has become detached from society.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your little summary at the bottom, it made me think of how one event can completely turn ones world upside down. One second you could buy a lottery ticket for less than 10 dollars and the next minute you could be a millionaire. One minute you can be a undiscovered singer, the next in the top ten of American Idol. Everyone is in control of their own future so don't be the one who becomes invisible, be the Bill Gates of our generation.

Wow, this is really deep... I agree with you on the thought "We as individuals define what is invisible." It truly does not matter if someone "does exist" if no one truly recognizes and acknowledges that person; we choose to listen or not listen to those around us.
